The parenting styles that are commonly seen in this book are those with the father and child, since many of the wives died soon after the birth. The first in the relationship between Mr. Earnshaw, this was and influential relationship in the book because it seeded the hate between Hindley and Heathcliff. Nelly explains Mr. Earnshaws relationship with Heathcliff, "He took to Heathcliff believing all he said... and petting him up far above Cathy". This quote's how Mr. Earnshaw picked favourites of his children. This relationship lead to the mean treatment of Hindley's child, Hareton. Next the quote, “Do you know, that twenty times a day, I covet Hareton, with all his degradation? I’d have loved that lad had he been some else”, show the relationship of Heathcliff and Hareton. Lastly, arguably the healthiest relationship is observed by Edgar Linton and Young Catherine.
In the relationship of Mr.Earnshaw with his children he has a very uninvovled parenting style. Mr.Earnshaw doesn't set a lot of rules for his children and as young kids their seen to be very spoiled. The outcome of this style is producing children that have little self control and this is seen in Heathcliff, Hindley and Catherine. Next, is the parenting style of Heathcliff which is a different method of uninvolved. Usually uninvolved parents don't set rules because they are too nice to their children, but Heathcliff just doesn't care for his children as a normal parent would. Even when he is involved with his children it's usually to criticize or punish. The cause of this parenting style is having children who fear you and are easily bossed around, this is seen in Linton and Hareton. And lastly, the authoritarian style of Egdar Linton as a parent. This is the most successful type of parenting, Edgar set rules for Catherine and was only strict to protect Catherine. I believe that Edgar was the best parent of Wuthering Heights, and the outcome was raising a headstrong, smart daughter.
Do you agree with all the parenting style of theses charaters?, What do you think is the best parenting style?
